Themed Roll Experience…
- Min 3 roll of 36 exp digital images I except 108 images on the following concepts
Resulting in 3 contact sheets that represent quality negatives that are a MUST! Or you will be required to re-shoot your digital rolls.
Problem:
Document a place/location and answer 2 of the following questions…
- theme choose form the theme sheet that you are interested in exploring…
SHOOT A SINGLE THEME
- Sometimes it helps to have a theme to keep our mind and interest engaged with our photos. It gives us purpose and a reason to look differently at things that we might have already photographed.
- Be specific in your theme so that it is obvious that the photo series was taken with particular intent.
- A theme might include: color, the same type of flower, classic cars, your hometown, the life of a kid, homeless people, travel photography in a certain location…
- The list can go on and on.
- The idea is that your theme is specific but still gives you enough latitude to take interesting photographs.
2. Your city’s architecture.
Go shoot the beautiful buildings around your city at all different times of the day.
I bet you’ll find some interesting buildings that you’d never noticed before.
3. Interesting Architectural Patterns
Some ideas to try:
- Old vs new – Find points where old architecture meets and merges with the new
- Broken/cracked windows – The shapes formed in the glass make interesting patterns
- Metal structures – Fantastic strong, bold and often symmetrical shapes
- Brick work – Look for strong colours
4. How does LIGHT on the land present itself at this location?
- Some Key Elements to Great Photography
- When you employ the understated Power of KISS (Keep it simple, shutterbug):
- Many great photographs have a commonality in their simplicity and directness. But this simplicity is part of the photos elegance; the photographer has used the viewfinder like a canvas. Everything in the photo is relevant to the message of the image.
- You pick up the image, study it, move it closer or further away, and absorb the moment…the beauty of still photography is how personal and powerful it can be, when it is at it's peak.
- Great photography consists of a few key elements: composition, lighting, and a great moment, create the above…
- Changes throughout the day and varying sun position will help you capture images that have interest and strength
- Think about Reflections, shadows, hot spots, or silhouettes.
Please exercise restraint and use tact in filming downtown people.
