OBJECTIVE:

To capture a series of images
which clearly emphasize each of the Elements of Design

INSTRUCTIONS:
o
Using the basic knowledge you have gained
take a series of outdoor / indoor shots which clearly emphasize each of the Elements of
Design.
o
Remember to take into consideration technical
aspects of picture taking such as Depth of Field, Shutter Speed, Film Speed
(ISO), and Focal Plane.
o
Try to compose each shot within the camera
trying different camera angles and positions relative to your light source.

All Photography students will…

Create a blog tab that represents
each element and then principle of design printed and posted
- § Analyze and describe why the image represents the discussion questions below Write your definition of each
- § Provide accurate personal images and description

Create a collection of images representing
each of the listed elements principles, and compositions elements
· Provided Artist examples that gave inspiration on the
elements by given their name and URL hyperlinked and provided example images
§ Create a contact sheet of each of the elements examples by themselves

Pick three examples that represent each
element, principle and composition
§ Photoshop

Use Photoshop tools to enhance, yet keep
readability as a straight not enhance image.
· Printed and mounted 3 images – 4x6 in size for printing and
demonstration of understanding of above

Elements of Design
Line 1/29
· Describe the lines – curved, straight, thick thin, bold fine, horizontal, vertical, dotted, zigzag, etc.
· Do the lines lead your eye? Explain
· Do the lines show direction or outline an object or divide a space? Explain
· Do the lines create a mood? Explain
Texture 2/12
o Describe the texture – smooth, slick, shiny, rough, raised, bumpy, fuzzy, soft, hard, grainy, etc..
o Can you feel the texture or is it just visual?
Shape/Form 2/26
· Shapes are 2-dimensional. Are the shapes geometric or realistic or abstract?
· If your design has 3-dimensions it has form – describe the form (balls, cylinders, pyramids, boxes.)
Space 3/11
· Space is the amount of room you have.
· Describe the negative space (background)?
· Describe the positive space – the design?
Color 3/25
· Name the colors (hue.)
· Are the colors bright or dull (intensity)?
· Are the colors light or dark (value)?
· How do the colors make you feel?
· Why do the colors look good together?
· What Color Scheme does to represent?
